More than 50 members and representatives of four East Hawaii Rotary clubs joined together to spread gravel, paint planter boxes and a shelter, and share some fellowship on a muggy, overcast Saturday last weekend.
The all-Rotary workday helped beautify the Big Island Substance Abuse Council’s therapeutic gardens at the Shipman Industrial Park. The South Hilo, Hilo, Hilo Bay and Volcano clubs participated and lunch was provided by the BISAC mobile food truck, Big Island Fusion.
“The effort was amazing when you consider we moved over 16 tons of gravel in just a couple of hours,” said BISAC staffer and South Hilo club member Gary Schwiter.
“Our East Hawaii Rotary clubs were honored to be able to support BISAC and its therapeutic garden through our all-Rotarian workday,” added Randy Kurohara, South Hilo club project chairman. “The mission and work of BISAC aligns so well with the values of Rotary and the turnout today was awesome.”
